Why is the world turning off its lights?

March 28, 2015

The world will switch its lights off this weekend in a global effort to unite people to protect the planet and promote sustainability. Now in its ninth year, Earth hour has grown to inspire more than 2.2 million individuals and 2,000 businesses worldwide to turn their lights off, as a symbol of their commitment to the cause.  A simple light switch for Earth Hour brings us all together in a collective display of our commitment to create a better future for our planet. With everyone's contribution we can show that our commitment is stronger than ever and seen all around the world.

This year, Earth Hour will be held today, Saturday 28 March, between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm in your local time zone. Will you be taking part in Earth Hour this year? What are you doing to fight climate change beyond the hour?
